Craft Project

Wednesday, June 10, 2009

We've started a unit study on Native Americans and instead of doing a craft last, I thought we'd do a craft first to get us in the mood! I chose the "Tipi" because most children associate it with Indians, but we'll try to cover several more types of houses that Indians all over the US lived in.

We're going to concentrate on the American West first and the Native Americans in that part of the country and then do a little "learning on the go" when we take our summer vacation.

Getting started...

...and done!

Learning about the rich history of this country's Native Americans is going to be great for the kids...and me!

Barrett's tipi looks so authentic and the buffalo hide covering with
drawings makes it look like American Indians could just move in, and make themselves right at home. Oh and the drawing of that Indian brave with one feather....When one receives an Eagle feather, that person is being acknowledged with gratitude, love and ultimate respect. The holder of the feather must ensure that anything that changes one’s state of mind must never come in contact with a sacred Eagle feather.

It's too funny looking at his little tipi. It does look like Indians have drawn the pictures! He's proud of it.
